Turmeric is a superfood

Turmeric is a spice that is used in every home in Pakistan for cooking, while in different countries it is also used as a medicine to treat various diseases. Turmeric is also said to be a superfood that can fight cancer, reduce depression and more. But how much truth is there in this regard and what can it provide for health?

This is reviewed in a WebMD report.

Depression

Several compounds in turmeric have potential health benefits, most notably curcumin, which scientists believe may reduce depression while helping sedatives work more effectively. However, research reports in this regard so far have mixed results.

Type 2 diabetes

Turmeric is anti-inflammatory and can therefore help stabilize blood sugar levels, making it a useful spice to prevent or control type 2 diabetes. A study of 240 people with prediabetes found that taking a turmeric supplement for 9 months reduced the risk of developing diabetes. Research in this regard is also ongoing, but mostly on animals, not on humans.

Viral infection

If you ever get a seasonal cold, try turmeric tea, which can help fight a variety of viruses, including the flu, but most of the research has been done in the lab, not on people.

High cholesterol

Medical science is mixed in this regard, with some research reports finding that turmeric consumption lowers levels of bad cholesterol, while other reports say it has no effect. Scientists are still evaluating the heart-protective effects of turmeric, and one study found that consuming turmeric may protect against heart attacks in people undergoing bypass surgery.

Alzheimer's

Alzheimer's sufferers experience chronic inflammation and turmeric has natural anti-inflammatory properties, but can this spice fight Alzheimer's? So in this regard, no solid scientific evidence has come out so far that it is effective in preventing this disease.

Joint diseases

Turmeric has been shown to be beneficial in reducing joint pain, stiffness, and swelling, and research results so far have been encouraging, but more research is needed if you're using turmeric for joint pain. If you want to try it, it is best to use it with black pepper.

Cancer

Laboratory and animal studies have found that turmeric inhibits the growth of cancerous cells, but these reports do not say what happens when a person ingests turmeric, noting that turmeric may prevent certain chemotherapy treatments. May interfere with the effect of medications.

Headache

Turmeric comes from the genus ginger, which is a natural headache remedy, so it's not surprising that turmeric is recommended for treating headaches, especially migraines. However, there is little scientific evidence that turmeric can treat or prevent headaches, but one study suggests that this new method may be part of the treatment.

Pimples

Some people claim that applying a turmeric mask on the skin can help fight nail acne, possibly due to the spice's antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
